Has anybody used rollers for training and if so how did you like them, I thought they may be good as you still have to keep your balance, so may be less boring. I also wondered if they would be noisy. Torpedo7 has a special on them now.

Love the way it says,

Get into better shape, improve your balance and concentration skills with the Torpedo7 Indoor Roller Trainer.

Think that's code for, "These things are b100dy hard to ride on!". Give 'em a go and let us know. Eye-wink

There are more injuries due to rollers than actual road riding... Eye-wink

Naa - they aren't that bad, certainly more 'engaging' than a standard trainer and as mentioned in the T7 blurb, you will use more muscle groups on rollers.

Will I have time to unclip before smashing my face into the hardwood floor or should a person start on a rug a least?

the first one of us to break bones indoors and whilst stationary john? we all know your track record mate and its not good! Eye-wink
i had a go of one of these things years ago but never trained on one. theyre certainly more "interesting" than a normal trainer!!!!!!!!!

Generally MTB-ers are more suited to clipping in and out and the need to balance over techy bits translates to rollers being less challenging.
Mate, someone of your calibre, I sure you'll be fine.

It will just be like learning to ride a bike... hang on a minute...
Cool

The floor is not so bad it's more of an issue when your cranking out the big ones and suddenly slip of the side, your rear wheel doing 60km/hr meets stationary floor giving you an active demonstration new newtons 3rd law of motion by propelling you into the wall.

Who had a few such incidents on from mixing rollers, fixies and youth.

By the sound of that I'm glad the price of Plasma's is coming down all the time, but I'm still not looking forward to launching through it!

but still very vivid, get the idea. Swore I'd never use them again, in fact I gave them away I had that much trouble. Thats probably more down to user incompetence than anything else, I mean Bernd has a set and manages to stay on them for, 5 minutes at a go now.

I know your looking because they are on special so this may not suit your requirements but have a look at what technology has done to the humble roller http://www.1upusa.com/1upusaemotionroller.htm

If they weren't so bloody expensive I might even consider these, actually no I won't, my memory isn't that bad

... 5 min. with "some" wall, fridge, "Item" near it, so I can lean agains't if needed!!!!!
I use it in the Garage and it is very hard to stay on them, thats why I'm near something....
...and every 5 min. I open the fridge!!!!!

I have used a set for the last 12 months, they are good value. I find them easy to stay on but hard to stay balanced at slow pace (under 20kms). I have a bar stool next to me when I use them, makes it easy to get on and off and a great place to sit the drinks and snacks while watching a movie.

Hi John, I got a set with all the best intentions some winters ago - couldn't get the hang of it or even to enjoy them at all, have a mate who swears by them though. If you can try a set first would be my tip.
