WWS 2008 Round 5 Yarramundi

It was a very nice day at Yellowmundee this weekend for their round of the Working Week Series. Good course, dry weather (just) and plenty of top NoBMoB company and banter made for a most enjoyable race day.

Mind you, the early start (6am) after late night (2am) wasn't easy, nor was the freezing start (yes, the car thermometer saw 1 degree on the way in).

Sam & I had paired up in the duo of 'Two worn out Nobs', the start being decided on the flip of a coin which saw me shivering by the river just gone 8am.

The ride up out of there and to the transition involved a fair bit of a walking for us back in the pack so was slow - almost 5 minutes as I timed it before starting the lap proper.

There was plenty of traffic first lap and some way into the second lap, but this only caused problems on the technical climbs. Two sections of what you would call serious tech here - the first of which I eventually cleared on lap 5, the second was too tricky though - how embarrassing! Eye-wink

I found the rest of the course nicely laid out with fun breaks of twisty stuff and some rather nice rolls and drops between the short climbs. Yellowmundee had left the impression of too many switchbacks on a previous visit, but not so today - I liked it a lot - although it's still very tight and could not be described as a high speed course.

Even with lots of sniggle and twists passing today was easy going both forward and back - everyone seemed very well behaved. Nice! Smiling

Sam and I had decided to do shifts of two laps and that worked out well. We managed 11 laps in the end, 6 to me, 5 to Sam. Overall we were no-where, but that was to be expected. Would probably be the case for me even in top form but have done no serious riding since Dirtworks almost 2 months ago and Sam is still recovering a bit.

Overall the day was top fun and very satisfying, trip to Canberra for the last round anyone? Eye-wink

For the record, here are my lap times, etc, which am very pleased with the consistency of:

Start: 4:54 (1090m climb from the river to transition)
Lap 1: 39:16
Lap 2: 40:03
Lap 3: 38:12
Lap 4: 40:12
Lap 5: 40:57
Lap 6: 43:16
