Bearing replacement

One set of the bearings in both my headset (Ritchey Pro Semi-Integrated Press Fit) and in my bottom bracket (Shimano XT Hollowtech II) are starting to make crunching noises - so I guess both got dirt and water in and corroded the bearing or the race. I have tried cleaning and lubing and that does seem to help for a few rides but I suspect the bearings are gone.

Since I am not keen to shell out for whole new crankset / bottom bracket or a new headset I was wondering whether anyone has bought replacement bearings for these parts (which I think are about $15-20 each) and swapped them over themselves. If so where did you get the bearings and how hard was it to swap them over?

A replacement bottom bracket is not that expensive. Around $60 for both cups so it may not be worth the effort to strip them apart to replace the bearings?

I found a website that explains how to change the BB bearing over

doesn't look too hard if you have all the tools and can find the bearing. Then again the $60 replacement BB is pretty good value.

Give the guys at www.diymtb.com.au a call/email They are very helpful in regards to anything to do with bearings.

I must say i feel quite wasteful replacing a entire BB cup, instead of just the bearings. But the cost of the entire BB unit is very competitive.
