Carbon Bars and Bar Ends
NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.
I currently have a pair of FSA K-Force XC carbon riser bars on my SS and I was looking to add bar ends to assist with climbing and to alternate my hand position. My hands start to hurt on long rides. Unfortunately the little sticker on my bars says no bar ends - damn.
Being a SS I place a fair amount of force on the bars (same for the bar ends) when I climb, so they both need to be strong.
Can anybody recommend a good set of XC bars (low to 1 inch rise) that accept bar ends and a good set of bar ends as well (I never realised there were so many varieties of bar ends). They don't have to be carbon but they need to be light.

Hi Paul I have a FSA alu bar sitting at home that you can have if you want. 1 inch rise though..... and it can take what ever bar ends you want.
then i am very certain RF Next SL with Controltech barends are OK.
Nice and strong and bling bling!

Hi Paul
I run a Easton Monkeylite CNT XC bar with some very old Tomac alloy stubbie bar ends. I weigh 95kg and put a fair amount of force through them. They havn't snapped yet but I do keep a spare alloy monkeybar just in case ( presuming I survive if they do break....)
Easton have a nice little pdf which shows which type of bar end clamps are compatible with their bars.
They do a 20mm and 40mm rise version

....if you're interested, I have a 20mm rise o/s Monkeylite CNT bar for sale if you like. Make me an offer!
I will throw in some bar grips too!
Conveniently, I have RaceFace Next carbon bars on my Karate Monkey. They are flat, about 58 cm wide and are tops. All RF carbon bars are available in various widths and rises and all have a titanium reinforced stem clamp zone and end plugs come with the models approved for bar end use.
My bar ends are Titec carbon and are rather short. I also like PRO.
The days of sore hands will end when you go carbon...
Guys, thanks for the feedback. I have some EA70 Monkeylite's that I will trial, but I like the sound of the Raceface Carbon bars.
I will keep a look out for a set and some bar ends as well.
