Rocky Trail Entertainment will run the popular WSMTB 12 Hour race on 8 August 2009 at Yellomundee Regional Park and is proud to announce that JetBlack Products have come on board as the major sponsor of the event. Expect a fantastic racing track, so close to Sydney, great prizes, a relaxed & professional atmosphere in the event centre and most of all – heaps of fun!

Categories traditionally will be male, female and mixed, including solo, teams of two, four or six. We'll also have Elite and Junior categories. Online registration is open.

This year the event will also host the first round of Rocky Trail's MTB Grand Prix Series. So if you have a mate or a boy- or girlfriend, husband or wife who wants to get into racing (and wants to experience the same excitement as you) bring them along!

"Twisted Links" is a friendly, happy go lucky team of four seeking a rider to make up the numbers. Sadly after organising this I have realised I can't make it Sad

Currently the team consists of ar_junkie, Mick and Al.

All the hard work has been done, all you need to do is put your hand up and chuck in about $60 (from memory). It's bound to be an awesome race with a great team, I'm spewing I can't make it myself.

Let me know.....

Damien's picture

Pick me I dont want to do this solo.

LadyToast's picture

Your in!

Damien's picture

That’s a relief I like Yellowmundee but not for 12 hours solo.

Carlgroover's picture

That makes me feel a whole lot better about riding the 12 hours on my lonesome Sad Eye-wink

Damien's picture

John I am just soft one solo 12/24hr a year is my limit.

Think of it as one additional member to your support crew... Eye-wink

One location, one day - 2 Races!

The popular WSMTB 12Hour race at Yellomundee is back on August 8, this year sponsored by JetBlack Products and run by Rocky Trail Entertainment, who are throwing in another race - their MTB Grand Prix - on the same day!

The 12Hour race will have the traditional 9am-9pm format, this year also with Elite Solo categories. The winners of those are racing for prize pools of $500 plus $40 per rider in the male category and $200 plus $40 per rider in the respective female category. The more Elites enter, the bigger the prize pool - the winner takes all!

- The Rocky Trail MTB Grand Prix will have a four hour racing format with a preceding qualifying “hot lap” to determine the starting grid.
- Qualifying starts at 10am, racing starts at 11am (start times subject to slight changes).
- The track will be similar, but more relaxed, more comfortable, easier and shorter than the 12Hour track.
- It is ideal for first-time racers who want to experience the undeniably exciting buzz of an endurance race event and get into racing.
- A plus is also, that you won't need lights, as MTB Grand Prix finishes between 3-4pm.
- If you want to get yourself that edge Australian Mountain Biking Clinics (AMBC) will be there to help. AMBC will be sending a few trainers to spread their magic with the popular Racelines Series on the Saturday morning before the event.

There are heaps of things the two races have in common

- Major sponsor JetBlack Products will have a lot of prizes to be won - spot prizes, as well as some category prizes,
- Certificates of achievement will be presented to category winners
- Many giveaways from our race supporters
- There are about 20 racing jerseys left - up for sale on the day
- Lots of work has been done on the trails by WSMTB

And this is what you can expect

- Free event drinking bottle for the first 450 riders to register (regardless of which race)
- Great Rocky Trail Entertainment racing atmosphere and event centre
- Presentation of top 3 riders of The Rocky Trail Show - never heard of it? Go to www.burningtrails.com to vote & win!
- Bike repair & maintenance on-site with Blackman Bicycles
- Verofit energy product in every rider bag
- Massage services on site by the guys from the Osteopathic Centre
- Live chill-out music with DJ Chris & Laura
- MC Paul Craft to entertain you throughout the day
- Online racing video for download after the event by Videotime
- Race coverage & photos for purchase by Marathon Photos
- Deliciously hearty food, coffee and drinks throughout the day

You need to sign up online to race! No registration on the day. Online registration will close Tuesday before race unless previously sold out (700 riders max.).

Head to www.rockytrailentertainment.com to register now!

Any teams need another rider as I would be keen for a bit of fun...

trailburner's picture

here are some counts of category entries we have so far (taken about 1 week ago)

12 hour:
Male Team 4: 31
Male Solo: 23
Female Solo: 1
ELITE Male Solo: 4
ELITE Female Solo: 0

MTB GP:
Male Solo: 34
Female Solo: 4

All up about 350 riders have registered so far.

Remember that the ELITE male category will pay $500 +$40 per rider in the category to the winner, ELITE female $200 + $40 per rider. With 4 male and 0 females in this cat it seems to be quite easy money at the moment....

If you are in the regular 12H solo category and want to upgrade to ELITE let me know by PM. The extra $25 might be well worth it.

jdb's picture

Maybe next year Sticking out tongue

Benny-B's picture

I would be happy to back up for anyone who want to pullout. I will pay the entry of course.
May just decide to go solo later too.

Did some laps out there today with Carl Groover and his friend Craig.
The track is perfect, settled base under the loose stuff, the berms all good, and the techie climbs have had some attention to fill in some of the gaps and steps. There are a couple of downhill corners with braking bumps, but only a worry at warp speed. Twisting down onto some of the creek crossings needs some care, but it is flowing really well. I'd forgotten what a great track it is. The conditions are so good, I got home, and didn't even have to wipe the bike down - not even dusty - that's a nice change!

One of our guys is going to try and get down there on before the race to stake out a tarp for the NobMob pits. Eye-wink
And a few of us are going to camp out there on Friday night so we can set up and be prepared well for the morning without a rush. We'll probably camp again on Saturday night, as it probably won't finish up till after 10pm. So a few bottles of wine will be on the menu!
There's a supermarket and bottleshop about 5km up the hill from the track, so anyone staying there can do a run if more supplies or a few coldies are needed. (Can't remember the township name).

I'll be taking my big tarp for the pit area & will have a car battery, inverter & a couple of lights. I'd recommend we get a few folding tables & chairs to make it civilised, and remember to bring plenty of water, as there doesn't seem to be any on-site.
W.

linco's picture

Sounds like it's going to be a great day out. I've entered in a pair and looking foward to catching up with all the Mobbers again.

Carlgroover's picture

Has a spot marked out track side, it's beside the area we last used for the 8hr and one spot closer to transition.
It's marked out with red rope and a ripped blue tarp weighted with sticks in the middle of the area.

So who's going on Friday night? I'm keen, but unlikely to be real early.
John.

Whisperer's picture

Expecting to get there between 4 and 5
Will have my big tarp and will start setting up as soon as I can get in.
Thanks for marking out the spot!
W.

Supagav's picture

Hey V and I will be there also. We might be there by 5.30ish if things go well. See you when we get there anyway.

Mick's picture

Twisted Links have lost a link and would be greatful if anyone would like to join our team. We have entered as a Team of 4 and we are made up of AR Junkie (Shaun), OneGear (Damien) and myself (Mick) so far. Ladytoast pulled the pin (as he always does Smiling). We plan to be on the podium so only reply if you are a gun. Just kidding (on both fronts), if you are willing and able that would be great. Ping me if you're keen. Cheers, Mick

results are up on www.rockytrailentertainment.com

thanks everyone for racing with us - it was a great day.

GAZZA's picture

(and many have Mate) but i cant see a results link on the site.

Damien's picture

Top race, great event and a fantastic course I love this track.

Twisted links (Ladytoasts team) turned up for some fun 4 = 3 in our case so it was going to be a little bit serious with double laps but we had fun I think thanks Mick and Shaun it was a great day for it well done guys.

I can now tick off the racing single speed fully rigid box really happy with my lap times considering but no need to do that again in a hurry ouch it hurts but its a good hurt I know I am alive.

Gav & V - Once again well done yoy guys should be sponsored by Garry Fisher maybe.

John - Gutsy effort well done you just need to figure out how to do your fastest lap after 10hours of racing to beat that guy?

Rob's picture

... well, maybe not so stupid Eye-wink

Don't see them here either Sad

Come on Martin - Pleeeeease, ditch that Flash only site, or at least fix it so you can post direct links (ie, so it changes the address in the browser with anchors - you know, '#thisorthat'). Sad

jdb's picture

Congratulations to everyone, some great results!

The SS had me working very hard, my average heart rate was over 170, peaking each lap at 215/216. I didn't realise it was getting so high as I never felt out of breath. I'm undecided about changing my gearing 32/18 was a hard slog, I managed to ride most of the course except for the two technical climbs.

BT's picture

Had a great day. Not too bad considering we were down 2 riders and it was just me and another team mate holding the fort for about 5 hours. We lost a rider on the 1st wooden bridge...He gashed his shin down to the bone and our other team mate had to take him to hospital. On my second lap my rear hub packed it in, but luckily I brought a 2nd (heavier) wheelset so I avoided my day being done right there.

We pulled the pin at about 7:30pm because there was literally NOTHING left in the tank.

I'm pretty happy with my lap times. Averaged between a high 33 and 36 minutes per lap, which is nice and consistent.

Big thanks to RTE and the other organisers.

Damien's picture

I did a little experiment with two ratios.

For the first two laps I ran 33 x 18 and then switched to 32 x 19 for my secound set of two laps.

While the 33 x 18 feels quicker I dont think it is, it can be a real slog when it comes to climbing and not so great on the techi stuff the first two laps of the race my times where 32.44 (race start lap) and 35.57 (full lap) my legs really felt like they had been hammered with the bigger gear after the first two laps of the day.

So the next set of double laps I ran 32 x 19 this felt light and easy in comparison the climbs werent such a slog and the techi stuff was a lot easier and I cleared more of the tricky rock sections than I did with the bigger gear. My times where 35.03 (nice clean lap) and 38.47 which included an OTB thanks to the rigid fork I was running otherwise it would of been a bit quicker.

My legs felt much better and not so fatigued with the spinner 32 x 19 I think it will stay on the bike for good as the lap times wernt really any slower and probably faster than they would have been with the bigger gear and definately much easier.

My last two laps dont count 40.15 & 41.34 these where a really casual cruze as my suspension (Wrists, Arms & Back) had all seized up I dont recomend racing a rigid fork.

Supagav's picture

Racing on that course for more than a couple of laps without suspension is not what I would call sensible...
On the gearing front I agree with Damein, a 32-19 would of been a much better choice of gear for that type of race. I am going to have to invest in a 19 for the Scott and maybe the angry doctor as well.
I think that a 19 would of been faster around that course, the sealed road was the only place that I spun out and I only cleared all of the climbs 1 time...

jdb's picture

I'll be looking for a 20 for training and maybe a 21 for the Scott. Will also be putting on a chain guard sooner rather than later, thanks Damien for the tip about the cranks failing.

Damien's picture

21 was great at this years solo nationals it was a good choice for a solo 24hr SS ride get a 19 for the everything else.
