Gear lever sticking??

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I have a Sram X7 lever. It has started to stick when changing down gears. It only happens when you try to down shift a couple of gears quickly. The lever stays in the forward position and must be pulled back with my thumb before I can change another gear. I have lubed the cable and inside the lever body through the rubber flap. Still is causing a problem. Any advice on how to remedy would be apprieciated.

Rusty Shimano XT Pedals

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi All
Had XT pedals on my bike for the last 6 months, all the cleat plates, tension springs and axles have major rust on them. It's an expensive bike, I think I do a pretty good job looking after it, no other rust on the bike, my other cheapo bike has M520's had it for 2 years, usally ride it when thing are wet, don't look after it that well, M520 not a speck of rust on them, a third of the price of the XT's, in this case I don't think you get what you pay for. Anyone else having this problem? maintenance tips?

Cheers

Stem Length and Tilt

I was hoping someone may have some knowledge about stem length and tilt and how that affects ride comfort? I've stuffed my back (L5/S1 disc protrusion, herniation and annular tear!) over my soccer years and it's now started to become a problem whilst riding. I'm trying to set-up my bike properly so that I can continue riding and avoid further damage to my spine. Otherwise the wife is going to get really p@#$%d at me for spending days at a time lying on the floor in pain!

I happened to be looking around on my favourite online bike store (that results in credit card fraud - yep someone kindly decided to spend $200 on my card, no problems getting it back) and I came across the Pro-Lite Allein Wheelset: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?M...

quicklinks what do you use and are they reliable?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

After having two sram quicklink failures this year keen to hear what other people are using to join a 9 speed chain together. Both of my problems have occurred while riding along either 20 minutes or in the case of dirtworks 4 hours into the race.
When I pick the chain up all I find is one link still in the chain and the other missing. I have been using the SRAM gold coloured ones a bit like this design

Do other people have failures? Is it operator error?

Shimano Deore Rapidfire Plus parts

I need advice as to what part or parts I need to buy?
Went for a mud run today, and broke something inside the front derailleur shift lever.
It must have been gummed up and I pushed it too hard, indicator needle stepped out too, not sure what I did but I had to ride home 1x9.
Pulled it apart and the little white plastic ring that engages the end of the shift cable has snapped out its fitting.
Need at least a new white ring. Can I buy this? OR do I have to buy a whole shifter?
I am assuming nothing else broke to cause this, and that I can get the 12 or so parts back together.

Stans notubes advice

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Just got a Stans NoTubes kit for the youngster's bike and was after some advice.

The rims it's going on are DT Swiss X430s. The instructions say that I can just put the rubber rim strip straight in, but I'm concerned about the spoke holes possibly rubbing and cutting through it over time.

Is it wiser to run a layer of the yellow tape around the rim first or am I worrying about nothing?

Thansk for your help. Smiling
