Wollemi/Wolgan Valley/beyond Lithgow MTB trip?
Gauging interest in a MTB trip in the Wollemi / Wolgan Valley / Dunns Swamp area (Lithgow/Kandos area) sometime between 7-11 April....
There is great scenery, MTB trails, canoeing and camping facilities in this hidden valley. Our family will be staying in the general area; and Benji and I plan to do some exploratory MTB rides in the region (3-5 hrs) on at least one or two of these days.
There is also a great camping site in the Dunn's Swamp area (it's not really a swamp, but a great freshwater lake in a "Katherine Gorge" type setting, great swimming/canoeing/kayaking, hiking, MTB'ing, with amazing Pagoda shaped rocks nearby)...all this only 3.5 hours from Sydney.
Anyone keen to join? Any suggestion of trails? Please indicate your interest.... (paging Flynny...)

We've been bushwalking out there and it's great scenery. I'm sure there's some great MTB to be had but wouldn't have a clue where, as you say... paging Flynny
Take care though, as the area seemed widely used by 4WD clubs and MX bikes.
Haven't ridden much around Dunns Swamp yet but planning too shortly. Appearently there are lots of trails around Kandos but they mostly cross private property
The coach rd into Wolgan from Newnes is awesome. I know a guy who is planning to do this and then hike a bike up over the pipeline track (pretty steep going for a while) then ride down into Glendavis but I'd say that would be more hike a bike than most people would want.
Another awesome ride is Long Swamp, Basically turns off the Wolgan rd opposite Blackfellas hands. Heads up and has some amazing views from the cliff tops on the upper Wolgan. Lots of very nice single trail around long swamp itself and the ride out to Baal Bone Point is pretty good. You can descend through Baal Bone Gap, around the back of Pantonys crown to reach Glendavis but there is private property so you will need to get permission of the owners of Pantony Station (Well worth it) We normally link it up with Newnes/blackfellas from Lithgow

Damn. I discovered the Dunns Swamp campground about 10 years ago while on a solo 4wd tour, and it was very empty back then. These days it seems everyone is starting to find out about it, which hopefully won't ruin the area. Be warned though that the campground can get very full during holiday times. (i.e. school holidays are April 2 to April 16).
I'd love to head out there myself too for a bit of MTBing but it looks like I'll be working then.
