Re: This ride meeting:
Knapsack Ride

The day started early on the 16th may 2010, for it was a meeting time at 9am at Glenbrook, myself and Mel arrived to see a lot of bmorc riders ready and eager to take on the challenge of Knapsack!!! for myself, iwas required to lead the ride, so i had many questions floating around deep inside the thing that some people call a brain, would i get us lost?, would i lead us into trouble?, would we get back in time? well the second question was answered as soon as Moggio had informed us that his bike had broken and could not continue, i think he has had too much bratwurst of late!..Maybe this affected his riding buddy Andy(debloot), because a rampaging Andy fell off his bike when going at about 1km/h, i am used to seeing the great Debloot upright and in control!..not this time! Things got better after this and the riding took on a familiar pattern, that pattern being the dulcet tones of Michael(big chuck) gasbagging while riding, i am sure that if michael just rode he would smash julien absalom, he must have lungs the size of swiss exercise balls to be able to talk and ride at the same time!

As the day moved on and the whole group headed over to the tramways downhill track things turned very serious and very nasty, when Scott? took a tumble that not only took his breath away it genuinely scared the bejesus out of all of us, hope everything is o.k. for you mate, we were going to check to see if your old fella was o.k. but couldn't get anybody to volunteer to do the check???
After this drama played it self out the rest of us limped up to the grass oval with heavy hearts only for Hector to put us all in a happy funny mood again, whilst riding on the grass flat our man Hec couldn't keep his bike upright and made a visit to the grass, Andy was now a very happy man for he wasn't the only one to have an off on safe ground at 1km/h!..Well done Hector!!!
Well as in all good things, they must come to an end, we finished up the day by heading over to the national park to do some more technical riding( as if we needed more!), and to put an end to what is a tough bit of riding!

Thanks to everybody for making the effort to turn up and make it a great day, it was very heartening to see a range of riders all doing the same ride and doing it with finesse and ease!

I need to get everybodies names so i can start remembering them, also thanks to Michael for looking after my daughter, it is appreciated, and for the photo's.

Hope everybody had a great day and i think we shall look at doing maybe Mt York in the near future, or maybe even Lawson!

BME,

Nice to meet you (briefly) on SUnday,

The lads had a great day doing the Mt Riv, Chicken R, out to Mundie, up Hawkesbury, Long Angle/ Shit Hill and home ride. Only one tumble, but one or two were a little peeved when Rotunno dropped it into big ring and smoked them all for the Hawkesbury climb, but I (from the tail of the field) thought it was funny Smiling I'd like to catch up with you and the other turgid riders for a turn sometime...

Cheers,

the Beerhunter

Nice work, Todd
It's hard work leading a crew of 15 through terrain like that

Always good to catch up for a ride with a few old and new faces
Hopefully Scott is not too bad now
That was one epic stack

And I didn't fall off my bike, BTW
I just felt the need for a short nana nap on the trail
And thought maybe I could sneak one in

Would like to catch up for this one again
Session a few of the techy bits
it's been a long time since I did it last
And looking forward to doing it again

And Lidsdale
I still haven't ridden at Lidsdale
We need to organise a ride out there as well

BM Epic's picture

Hehehe!..I am thinking of getting just a few of us as well to do a good session at G/Brook, I will organise a day out to Lidsdale as well, this place is awesome, it just rocks!
I am getting a lot of blokes and girl wanting to do a big one at Mt York, we would have to be pretty choosy with this because of the extreme nature of a lot of the riding, it's now very techy, so a small group would suit it!
Might be good for your Oaks single track loop, this sounds like lots of fun!
Can you give me your phone number please mate, mine is 0247 544 878, i dont own a mobile so it's landline heaven!
Todd
P.S...that was no nanna nap, it was the earth rising to meet you at a most opportune time!

Andy Bloot's picture

mobile: 0412 486 926
got your number in my phone, so if I miss your call, I'll know who it is

G'brook - yes please
Lidsdale - most definitely
Mt York - oh yeah
Oaks ST loops - make it if you can - it will be fun

And I'm trying to organise a trip to C'berra - overnighter
majura and stromlo are musts
Saw the mog last night, and he might be in this one
I'll keep you posted

PS...and that bloody tree pushed me over

Canberra...oh my god yes!!..i would give my left nut to ride stromlo, and Mark reckons Majura is something we would love!
I will wait a couple of weeks and we will start organising some of these rides, i am thinking:
Mt York: small group bmorc ride, maximum of 8 people
Lidsdale: Small group again, this time private ride.ie: you, mark , jeff, mel , me and get Flynny as well!
Glenbrook: Another small private ride with heaps of sessioning!

The Mt York one worries me because of the amount of hard climbing and extreme descending through techy stuff, it's one of those places that usually claims victims, usually badly hurt!
Let me know what you think, i know Jeff is dying to get to Mt York again, Mel also, and the same with me!

Andy Bloot's picture

i've seen enough bloody video of Stromlo
i NEED to get there and ride it

And you will love Majura. One of my faves
A mate of mine moved to c'berra last year
So I'm hoping he can show us all the good bits
I'm seeing him tomorrow as i'm heading down to Sydney

So no need to give away one of your nuts, mate
i'm going to put together a few dates
And we'll pick one we can all make

And Mt York
i'm not shy to walk bits that look like I may get hurt
but it's good to stop and session bits as well

But I'm dying to get to Lidsdale and c'berra
They've been on the to do list for too long

Just a thought:
if you were planning on doing a group ride out at Mt York, it might take a bit of planning to make a decent half day out of it. One lap of Locker's/Lawson's takes about an hour, so it might be worth doing a couple of descents. Problem is, not everyone would have a couple of ascents in them.
However, if you include the nice single track that runs along beside Mt York Rd, you add about half an hour (that includes both directions).

I usually ride from Blackheath to Mt Vic on the railway access track (legal), along the bitumen to the top of Lawson's, then varied single track beside the road to the end of Mt York Rd. Have a look at the view, ride back on the single track to the top of Lockyer's. Down Lockyer's and up Lawson's. Then back to Blackheath the way I came. That takes 2 - 3 hours (depending on breaks and getting sidetracked) and I'm usually pretty knackered by the end of it.

The other option, of course, is to include Berghoffer's, but I've heard it's not as nice as it used to be.

Just thought I'd put my 2 cents in...

Although i like berghoffers to end the ride, your one sounds pretty sweet, it will be awhile before we do Mt York methinks!
Andy, how about i put together a Lidsdale ride soon, we probably wont get that many people because of the distance anyhow, but it is such a great ride, i think it's very similair to sparrow but with heaps of technical area's, also gap jumps and little doubles that just flow together, there is one sequence of jumps that when you hit it at speed you clear them easily, we did it first time without looking at it and just hitting it, it felt awesome and it just flowed you onto the next jump...soooooo good!
There is a gap jump that we session, i have ridden it heaps of times, looks scary but it isn't, the trick is that there is a berm before it that you have to hold your speed on, for it spits you out onto the jump, then it's a scream downhill off ledges and stuff, i could go on and on, i just love the place, there is one gruelling climb that keeps going and going, gets a little technical but boy it's good!
Will work up some dates mate!
Todd

Andy Bloot's picture

Put a date together for that, Todd- FOR SURE

I also like the sound of Jims suggestion for a Mt York day
We can plan that one for the future

For now I cant' do
Sat May 29 and oaks loops the next day
Sat June 5
Sat June 19 or Sun June 20
Sun June 27 is the careflight

Other than those dates, I'm good to roll
