Riding near Forster
G'Day all,
Looking for a bit of info....... Dave_B and myself and a few others are heading up to Forster area in a few weeks to his holiday house. We are wondering if it is worth taking the bikes up.
Does anyone know of any decent single track around that area? We're about half way between Bulahdelah and Forster so anything near either of them would be cool, or further if its worth the drive.
We're only going to take the bikes if there are some good tracks close by. If not we'll stick with the kayaks.
Any info would be appreciated.......
Cheers,
Ian

If you have a spare morning, I highly recommend driving up to Tinonee (south-west of Taree), and hitting up the Kiwarrak trails. Fantastic riding on some of the nicest flowing singletrack I've been on.
It's probably a half-hour drive up from Forster. Let me know if you need more info.
If you could send through some more info that would be great Jim (PM if you want to).
If its that good we'll definately drive up for a ride.
Cheers,
Ian
Some of the guys are heading to Kiwarrak this weekend:

Details of the trails - more to come after the weekend I hope - are here:

As suggested on Rob's NobMob link, I found it easiest to drive down Deans Creek Rd and park down there where the trails cross it. The flatter trails are closer to the main drag (Bucketts Way), and there's some steep climbs and gnarly descents further south.
There're a few maps up on the web, but this one is probably the best that I found:

Some of the tracks are definitely designed for a particular direction, so I found the flow much better when I worked that out.
You might have missed it in the post above... this GC users has some great profiles around this area:

Thanks Jim and Rob.
We'll check it out.

Well a big thanks to Jim and Rob for the heads up on this one.
It was definately some of the best single track riding I have ever done. Dave_B and myself managed just over 20km of all single track without touching the same track twice and still didn't see everything. Average speed was down near 11km/h with some gruelling climbs and very techy sections.
There is something for everyone there with easy flowing sections, hard climbs, fast downs, techy natural sections, and some fairly big built sections. We didn't attempt the gap jumps or the huge see-saw but the little one was easy enough.
Unfortunately I had a moment early in the day where my ambition clearly overtook by ability and I went OTB. I popped the tip of my finger out but managed to get it back in and kept riding. Within 20 minutes I really struggled to use the front brake, so I had to take it much easier than I would have liked on the down hill and techy sections.
Was an awesome days ride, a big thanks to the lady out there with her kids that gave us direction a few times and pointed out the better tracks. We are definately heading back out there sometime this year.
Cheers.
Just got back from a trip to Forster and hit up Kiwarrak again with my wife.
Started off with a nice slow run around the green stuff, then dropped of my wife and went looking for the techy stuff.
After looking at the track named GO21, I thought I had to have a go and video it. So I sticky taped my trusty old Sony Ericsson to the bars and let loose. The quality is poor, but it gives you an idea of the tracks out there. Still my favourite ride destination.
There was some other stuff I wanted to hit after doing this run 3-4 times, but I didn't see anyone else out there and didn't want to come a gutsa by myself.
Not sure if the youtube thing is working for me so here is a link;
