I can show you guys the Terrace falls side as well, Mark knows it, it is awesome, will have bike back by then, and need to train for the Kanimbla race!
Onya for getting this one cracking Bloot.
Todd, how about some GHS laps to get some k's under the belt for the Kanagra fiddy?
Soooo looking forward to this. I <3 Lazos The trails should be nice too.
Ill be watching them wet the head of my mates second born, so Ill be thinking of you guys.....
I was really wanting to do this one too as I haven't ridden there yet.
Sorry bout the stupid Q, but....where is 'Lazos'??
I've been riding for about 6 mths and only really done a few tracks. Love to join up, but, err, gotta know where. Might bring my son (12yrs), is this the kinda track he could do? And the kinda pace he might keep up with? He did the Oaks race a couple of weeks ago in 1hr05 to give you some idea. He's only 50/50 anyway, school hols, he might have mates over then, but would be good to know.
Thanks guys
PM sent vtr.
Sorry, but im out, will still be down the snow, wont be back til that afternoon at 5!
Have a good ride champs!
I should be up there! Know my way around the main trail, and looking forward to having another crack at that filthy loose climb up the bit of firetrail!
"...and need to train for the Kanimbla race!"
What's going on in the Kanimbla Valley, Todd? Did you mean the Kanangra race?
can't make it now. Have fun!
Got friends coming down from Newcastle. I'll try to get them out on a bike, but it probably won't be for more than an hour.
I'll play it by ear.
Family commitments are going to keep me away. Have a nice ride folks!
Have another coming too who is a non BMORCer.
would that be me Vinno?
Ah Yeah looks like you are a BMORCer.
I hope we won't have to take any chainsaws with us with all this crazy wind!!!
Damn straight A! How about that tree on the train up at Medlow. This wind is BULLSHIT!!!!
Make sure your chainsaw isn't fitted with an SRAM 10 speed chain Andrei!
(Just got the power on at 2:00 today - not quite 24 hours, pity all the other upper mountains folk who are still off tonight.)
Mine only just came on late this arvo
Made work very challenging
Better than Gilbo and others who had no running water as well
LOL. I did end up fixing that chain with a couple of spare links that I had at home. Now running sweet. Will anyone have a a chance to go up for a recon ride on saturday to check out the trails? The weather app predicts heavy winds for Sunday as well.
I'll probably ride down to the dam and do the 2 upper sections of single track Sat. Will try to clear the track as I go. I'll post up the track condition Sat pm.
Visitors postponed, so I'm good to go. That is, of course, if I'm not playing cleanup round the house. I've been in Sydney all week (yes, Bloot, working on my suntan) so I don't even know if the Blackheath house is still there....
Weather forecast is for 26 - 30 km/h winds on Sunday, which is a zephyr, really, in comparison.
But may have the choice of a bracing cold shower to get some hair on that chest of yours
or choose to cultivate a fine man stink as i have done over the last few days
30km is a mere poof of wind
Reached 140km's during some gusts
First time this city slicker has encountered the freight train sound of a real wind
Negligible damage down here at Winmalee, but I did have the misfortune of watching my bike get blown from one side of the back deck to the other! Oh, the benefits of living at the top of a wind-funneling gully.
Are we meeting at the Hazo station car park next to puzzleland?
That sounds familiar JP
Vince is probably the best one to confirm though
I've only been there once
As good a place as any - the drop in is just up the road.
I managed to clear most of the 2 upper sections of single track except for 1 tree which 2-3 blokes could drag off plus one other which will need the chain saw(both in the first section). Otherwise should be fine to ride fast. Still lots of stick litter on ground which probably will flick up a bit.
The dam only has one larger banksia across the track on the first climb, again safe to ride fast down the hills.
Would like to come along but too many family commitments Sunday am.
Bah, commitments & phlegm suggest that I'm out for tomorrow. Was really looking forward to it as well!
Have fun at the "skills track" guys, hit the car up a few times for me!
Nice work bigzoo!!
was hoping to meet you guys, but not to be this time. I'll be riding still, just early. I like to take off when the sun rises and be home in time for a hearty brekky. Got 3 Ring Circus at end of July and gotta prep. Doing Oaks up and back, kicking off at 6. Anyone else doing the Circus race?
Yeah - bigzoo is now on my Christmas card list. Top work!
I'm working back until 9 this morning so I'll, be missing out . Have a good ride.
Sorry guys if I caused any confusion not turning up... I lost track of what day it was after this crazy week, everyday feels like a weekend that I am somehow working on. Hope it was good.
Nice ride today gentlemen - condolences for the blootster's mechanical.
Pity I couldn't be there... Was there in Spirit though, dreaming of riding all day!
Bloot, what happened to your bike? Nothing major I hope?
Not that rear triangle finally going?
Thanks for showing us around Andrei, Vinno & Co.
An excellent track, even with all the tree debris, and I don't know why I've never ridden there before. We managed to remove all the fallen trees except one large one, but we moved it around so it's not that bad. If someone adds a few smaller logs either side, and it'll be another nice roll-over - no chainsaw needed.
Seems like the J the B voodoo hit you again Andy. Every time we ride together you get a mechanical or crash. Did you replace that derrailleur and get out for a ride, or just sulk around the house cursing that ultra-light carbon fibre crap?
Where are we going next? Mt York?
Annoying the way companies will spec an all mountain bike with XTR rear der's just to look good
I broke the very first XTR shadow years ago in the same way an in even a shorter time frame
Anyhoo, no Jim - I only sulked with a beer in the car park with Gilbo (9.30am - yum)
Then went up the road for some trail maintenance love
But after you and someone the day before were talking of all the carnage up at Blackheath
Thought i would take Michelle up there for a rubber neck
Mistake!!
Left Blackheath for home about 4 and into a major traffic jam
Got to medlow bath - road closed, tree down - no you can't get through
So up to Mt Vic we went and into the heaviest traffic I have ever seen
Had to go down through Richmond and up into Springwood and home
Took over 5 hours to get from B'heath to Wenty
And then the chicken shop and pizza place were closed, so it was a ham sandwich and off to bed
Gonna have to post a follow up ride, because the 10 minutes I got to ride it were awesome
Andy - You'll have to replace it with something metallic now to avoid the carbon tax
Oh Andy not the rear mech!
Jeez Andy, I went up to Mt Vic yesterday at 4pm and was back by 6pm... no worries
I don't know why the road was still closed, at around 5:30 when we were coming back there didn't seem to be any need to keep it closed as the tree was already gone.
Blackheath is pretty much cleaned up compared to what it looked like last week which was pretty sureal.
Jim hopefully your place survive ok? Is power back on at Blackheath now?
Thanks for letting me know
5 and a half hours it took
They couldn't give us any indication as to how long it was going to take to clear
Might not be open tonight they said
So rather than hang around to only have to go that way later
We decided to bite the bullet and go
Anyway, its done now so case closed
Yeah, we're fine, thanks for asking Mark. Had a neighbour's tree fall on our roof, but it was only a wattle so we only have gutter, eave and tile damage. So we don't factor into the 46 houses that were written off (luckily no injuries that I've heard of). The SES boys from Lake Macquarie sorted us out by removing the tree and patching the roof with a tarp. The SES need a bloody medal for all the work they've done up here.
I missed all the action, being in Sydney, but the poor neighbours had no power for 4 days. It only came back on Saturday around 4pm. Those without gas or wood heating had to wait until the SES cleared the huge pines blocking the street before they could escape to their friends or rellies, as it was bloody freezing up here. Even yesterday after I got back from Lazo in my T-Shirt, it was -6.5 wind chill and I had to dive for my down jacket.
One of our friends in Blackheath got sick of freezing his arse off, so decided to catch the train down to Sydney - unfortunately he chose the wrong train. He was on that train that got smitten at Medlow Bath. Hoping to hear the full story soon.
To top it off, one of the houses on our street burned to the ground on Wednesday morning when the guy left his candle burning and stepped outside to check out what was left of his property (six or seven massive pine trees toppled).
So yeah, I think I'm pretty lucky.
One house had a for sale sign out the front with a big sold stuck over the top
And a massive pine tree through the front half the house
The SES are again the saviours
They've been working their arses off as they always do when we're in trouble
As i was saying to you yesterday
You really need some sort of alternative heat to electricity
When I leave Blackheath and get to Wenty, it's like arriving in the tropics
So is it Mt York next month????
Glad to hear your house Jim wasn't too bad... well at least compared to what some of the others had to deal with.
I agree Chuck, Mt York would be nice.... I haven't been there for ages.
Mt York is in awesome condition at the moment, i suggest a Lockyers out and back, then Cox's down and Lawsons back, big day but lots of fun!
