This image has been going around a bit, but don't think anyone here has mentioned it.

Thought I'd share so we can discuss the possible causes and how to avoid such a situation yourself Eye-wink

Picking a stronger rim/spoke combo might help, or do you think rider error is completely to blame?

I reckon that was a right hand hip and he's oversteered on landing.

Or someone swapped his spokes for 2 minute noodles when he wasn't looking. Classic gag!

Not sure it is coincident. The spot he landed on has been resurface. Need MTB CSI!

Well you think of how many people would have landed that during the race weekend and no one else would have managed to taco their front like that... I'd say that with even the strongest rim he would have still done that.

Id like to see the next photo when the front rotor probably snaps!

... along the tape, a bit right down the rock face and then onto the ramp. Nothing complex there, so I'm guessing gear (i.e. rim) failure at that point, probably due to an earlier issue, although he could have just got the line totally wrong at speed and hit the ramp at the wrong angle, so that the rim gave out before his wrist did.

Looks like it will be more like a burrito by the time he's finished crashing.....

At least he's doing a great job of spotting his landing.

The rider was coming at the jump from the side and the jump is also off camber. The rider's weight was going through the corner but he was pointing the bike down the track.Turning your front wheel on landing on steep down hills will always end badly. A slight turn of the front wheel to straighten the bikes direction over hills looks good but down steeper stuff beware.
