Hey guys so I'm in the midst of one of my most ambitious projects to date - replacing all the picot bearings on my 2008 Giant Reign. So I've got it apart as shown in the photo EXCEPT! for the middle linkage thing. The thru-bolt is out, so the piece is loose but I can't get it away from the frame! I've been pretty gentle so far because I don't want to wreck anything, but is there any trick to getting this away from the frame? Basically it seems I need to flex it open and get it around the frame, but easier said than done! Thanks for advice from anyone who's been here...

my guess is the offending pivot shaft for this rocker is an interference fit i.e. tight fit in the frame and will need a special drift (tool) to press it out...you could try talking to the guys at diymtb.com.au they seem to have lots of tools, etc for this kind of work..good luck!

This was my problem on a 2008 trance

1: Buy large hammer
2: Buy mild steel bolt of approximate diameter of pivot bush
3: Lay frame on side and align bolt with pivot axis
4: Strike bolt as hard as possible
5: Say to Minister of Finance "Darl, I've got bad news. See here? The frame is cracked. I need to buy a new bike."

All fixed. Evil

Oh, almost forgot Step 6: flog remainder of bike off on eBay as individual parts and make more than you would have selling off the whole bike to fund deposit. Smiling

Thanks Biker23, you're on the money. It's actually just a two step process: 1) replace brain with functioning version; 2) there is a hex bolt that keeps the two halves of this rocker piece together - simply undo it and take the piece away from the frame.
