My 2011 trek Remedy 9, has been stolen from my place today, it was locked in a storage cage (2 x D-locks, one for the cage door and other for the bike grabbing the actual cage). My wife saw the thieves getting into their car (old sedan red Toyota) and running off.
Please if someone see it around let me know.
Police has been advised and luckily my home content insurance is going to cover it.

Cheers

P.S. any recommendations for a new bike? Does anyone has the 2014 remdedy 9? Canondale Jekyll?

I own the same bike and would be gutted if I lost it, insurance payout or not.

In 3 years of riding it around Sydney, I have yet to see a matching bike. I have always thought that the distinctive colours would provide some sort of theft protection. Breaking the parts down and selling them is a little harder when some of the parts are gold!

It looks like yours is even more distinctive though. Had you replaced the fork uppers with a black version? If so, it is almost certainly unique. Other differences from the standard model are the saddle and the dropper post. Is that a Widgit on the front?

For all that it is worth, I am permanently on the lookout for another member of my bike family.

Good luck with the new purchase.

where was it stolen from?

TheOneRing, yes definitely unique, I changed the stanchions not a long ago, Kashima coating and black crown. Cranks are a combination of XT arms, raceface 32T ring and bashguard. Fizik saddle (gold/black). KS lev dropper post. XTR pedals, XT shadow plus rear derailleur. and most of screws/shock valve and rear shock spacers are gold.

ohh and it was stolen from Homebush West

I'm in the same situation with my bike locked up in a cage.

If you don't mind me asking, is the insurance covering a replacement bike to the same spec? Or the original purchase cost? What about your personal mods?

I have a trek fuel 9.7 which I got on sale. Think I would have a hard time replacing it now for my original cost.

I start lining the cage with plywood now until you get a new bike maybe paint a mural on it with a shitter bike being inside the cage or keep the bike in your unit ?

Hi Tom, Original cost. Obviously all mods are a lost. I used to have it insured with Velosure and they pay RRP plus any extras that you want to cover (I added XTR pedals, KS seatpost and GPS) But I cancelled it to cut my monthly expenditure.

I will be having the new one always at my unit from now on. And actually I put it on the cage since last Sunday (26-oct)and I was just lazy to take it upstairs.
Another thing that I noticed the night before was taken is that the D-lock on the door cage was moved, I noticed it because I left it in a special way precisely to notice if someone tried to open it. But at that time I hadn't the keys for both locks with me so I I didn't take the bike upstairs. Next day... gone!
