Maxxis Minion Semi Slick
Is anyone on here using the Maxxis Minion SS and if so what are your thoughts?
Bike transport
I'm looking at changing my car and one of the considerations is transporting the bike's.
I need to take 3 sometimes 4 bikes at times, but generally its only the one or 2.
I'm looking at maybe a twincab ute and getting a tailgate pad similar to https://www.mountainbikesdirect.com.au/dert-tail.... It looks simple to use, no need to disassemble bike, or wrangle with bike racks not designed for odd shaped MTB frames.
Has any one used these and would recommend for it or against it?
the curse of .. warning (major) rant follows!
press fit bottom brackets - aaaarrrgghhh!
I hate these changing standards, what was wrong with 26'ers anyway? My old one was light, ~10.5kg and very agile and the XTR bottom bracket in this bike was absolutely bullet proof, after almost three years of riding in frequently wet, muddy and shitty conditions it was immaculate, good as new, that was real engineering - simple, elegant & effective!
Recommend good semi slick tyres
Hi there,
Haven't used my MTB for a while now. I am looking to put some new tyres on it just to ride around bike paths, parks, on grass maybe. Anyone recommend some good semi slick or slick tyres that would be suitable. Tyre size 26". Did see these.

Any good? Maybe this up front and a slick at the back.
Thanks for any suggestions.
What's The Point Of Presta
Seriously, why do we have to put up with presta valves on MTB rims? My new rims came with presta valves and I was reluctant to drill brand new rims out to fit schraders. So I got adapters to use the air at the servo and my home air compressor inflater. What a fricken pita!
Twelve months on and warranty cares now zero, I carefully drilled them out to fit some nice new schrader valves. Life is much happier. Using the valve caps that have the core removal tool built-in lets me add stans anytime.

Plug for 'Dynaplug'
I recently made a purchase I am so happy about I though I needed to share with NoBMoB:
Anyone who has read my blogs knows a puncture ruins my races. I’m absolutely crap at getting a tube in and getting back on the bike. My usual process is I stop and turn the bike upside down then rotate the wheel so the hole is at the bottom and hold my finger over it in the hope the sealant will block it.
Internal Rim Widths and Tyre Size
Happy New Year to anyone who reads this:)
Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on internal rim widths and tyre size selection?
I'm currently running 2.3" tyres on rims with a 29mm internal width and while I'm generally happy with the setup the tyre profile is quite square (even at low PSI) which makes the tyres feel like they don't grip up straight away when cornering, if that makes sense (could be my crappy riding skills have something to do with it as well).
Cheers
Chinese carbon rims
I'm just wondering if anyone has tried Chinese carbon rims from 3S bike?
I'm a tightarse so trying to salvage my spokes for the new wheel build. Light bicycle don't appear to have a wide rim (35-45mm internal) with a 595mm ERD, or close.

These 42mm rims suit the needs of my wide tyres and the recycled spoke requirement, but I am having no luck finding independent product reviews.
Seat Fitting
So, my seat on both the MTB and roadie are causing significant numbness in the front carriage. I have written a letter to Santa's Minister and they have agreed to a new seat Question is, where can I go to get an assessment of the type of seat that suits my anatomical needs?
I am located on the Northern Beaches but can travel if need be.
Cheers
Shimano equivalents
Can anyone help me figure out a shimano (or quality non-SRAM) version of their X1 11 speed chain and sram 10-42t 11 speed xd cassette? Chain reacton and wiggle don't seem to stock sram anymore and I can't find these parts.
Cheers
