RS Reverb seatpost remote advice

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Got back on the MTB today for the first time in a few weeks due to a dicky knee, and had a chance to play with the dropper post. I like it.

By the end of the ride though, the joint at the base of my fragile desk jockey thumb was feeling rather tender. I think this is from having to push the plunger all the way home to get the saddle to move.

I know you can alter the rebound speed by twisting the dial on the end, but does anyone know if it is possible to get the post's locking mechanism to release earlier in the plunger's travel, or reduce the amount of force needed?

Thanks!

Steel 29-er

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I’m interested in a getting a steel 29-er hardtail – preferably single-speed with option to run gears. Particularly keen on Niner SIR9 or Ritchey P-29er.

Does anyone have one of these I could please sling a leg over and ride around the block, or even better a steel 29-er they are thinking of selling? I prefer the XC bent as opposed to hardcore hardtail flavour. Medium size required (5’10”)

Thank you!

So after putting it up several months ago, leading to a LOT of food for thought for me, I had narrowed it all down to the Spec Epic and Trek Top Fuel. Eventually (and contrary to what I know many would choose), I finally settled on the Top Fuel (mainly due to pricing) in February though had a spanner thrown in my works when I found out that Trek had completely sold out for the year. Luckily after much negotiation between Turramurra Cyclery & Trek Project One, they sorted out a custom built model.

Is Shimano 1 * 11 better than 1 * 10?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Looking to upgrade my XC bike from 2 * 9 to one front chainring. It seems that my existing wheels will fit a Shimano 10 or 11 speed cassette.

I would like a 11-40 rear cassette so it seems 11 speed is simpler. Anyone have some experience with the 11 speed XTR and one chainring?

Maintenance after riding thorugh a river

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I did a ride over the weekend that included riding through numerous knee deep river crossings where the bike was semi submerged.
Should I be looking at re-greasing hubs etc and any recommendations on type of grease?
Thanks

Dropper Post for XC Racing?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I'm just wondering what people closer to the sharp end of the field think about using a dropper post for XC racing.

Worth the 200g? Would it help my lap times (assuming I'm doing my best to improve the engine performance as well)?

Cheers!
