Proposed Mountain bike track in Centenial Park Sydney.

I am a Mountain Bike enthusiast living in the heart of Sydney. So like many in my position it takes at least an hour to get to a good cross country track. Then on the weekend i was riding my roadie in Centenial Park, and i noticed the amount of unused grass around the perimeter of the park and had an epiphany. Why not build a single track around the edge of the park, seperated by a fence to protect both the cyclist and the pedestrians. So here i am trolling all Sydneys bicycling web sites lookingfor support.

The collective group of people from NobMob, local clubs and the general public who have been working with NPWS (Bantry Bay, Garigal and State) and Councils over the last 4 years need everyones support.

We have recently published the OFRH Trail Care Proposal. To show support for making these trails official we need your membership.

I hear that Blue Mountains NAtional Park has contracted an outside company to do some trail maintenance in Glenbrook, does anyone have more information on this?

It's not news to us of course, but it looks like it is news for the mainstream media. Our dirty little secret is out Eye-wink

Mountain biking is now the subject of travel and health articles in Sydney newspapers. Besides the multi-page spread in the Sunday Telegraph's chix section Body & Soul a couple of weekends ago, I've noticed more and more travel articles appearing in places like the Sydney Morning Herald.

Here's a piece by Katrina Lobley on Idaho's Sun Valley having "perfect dirt" for mountain biking :

Lake Parramatta Reserve - Meeting to discuss action against possible closure by Parramatta Council

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

We are having a meeting at Dooleys Silverwater at 7pm on Wednesday 19
October to discuss the proposed Lake Parramatta trails closure and Draft Plan
of Management.

Dooleys Silverwater is at the corner of Clyde St and Silverwater Rd near the
Silverwater Bridge.

Slight change from the original suggestion at Lidcombe but the room was
better and it hasn't cost us anything (plus it may also be closer for some
Parramatta local riders, too).

It will be a chance for all those voices and names to finally meet and collect
our thoughts together in a common group against this.

MOUNTAIN bikers will be welcomed back into some state national parks under a government plan to stop illegal trails being cut.

Construction will start on a series of dedicated tracks in parks around Sydney in the next few weeks, including trails in Garigal National Park and Berowra Valley Regional Park on the north shore, the government has said.

Moto Trail Vandalism

I saw this on another board and thought it should be posted here to raise awareness.

Pardon my french, but check out these dickheads.

Two morons on motos plus their mate in a Nissan Patrol tearing up MTB trails in Nowra, which are maintained by dedicated local MTB'ers.

Singletrack vandalism starts around the 9 minute mark.

They also manage to kill a snake, knock down a few trees and hassle some roos. Absolute bloody bogans.
