WTF are the Downhill rides???

Hi all,

I'm gonna have a bit of a rant here.

I joint this forum after following a link from the Rotorburn Old Bat thread. Thinking, great there is something happening in the Blue Mountains, there are Downhillers and Trail riders getting together to support our sport. I was realy under the impression that this whole forum came together because of the closure of Old Bat (a freakin downhill trail).

However all I see is cross country rides being organised. (nothing wrong with a few cross country runs). It seems that there are no downhillers here. Even when we went for the last Knapsack ride, I posed the question "Who here owns a downhill bike" and all I got in reply was blank looks. Like if I just asked, who likes to have sex with their own mums!!!!

Anyway, if you ride dowhill, please let's organise some runs....

Maybe even some shuttle runs of Chicken..

Well to put it bluntly Andrei, when you roll up to a meeting in support of downhill riders at old bathurst road and 80% of the people who show up to support the downhillers cause is cross country/trail riders, i think that shows just how much some of them are willing to help themselves, it's just something i noticed, not having a go at anybody, it's what i seen at the first meeting, and also the council meeting(3 people).
Also this site was created with the overall picture in mind, for example, if council find it so easy to get rid of a track with very little opposition, what could they do with the rest of the trails and tracks up here?
As far as organising downhill rides, there are quite a few downhillers who have joined this site and they are quite welcome to organise rides, it's just that blokes like myself and most of the other members dont own downhill bikes!
You should put something up in the calender and see how you go!
Also i think that this has been created with pulling everybody together and it is still early days yet!

Says a lot for why the trail got closed down in the first place.

That a bunch of xc guys stepped in and tried to save then trails and are putting a fair bit of time into trying to get the current issue sorted is a good thing.

As for organising DH rides in the public forum just remember the council decision was to close "all down hill mountain bike trails on the eastern escarpment" I wouldn't be advertising shuttle runs on any trail in the Bluies on the public forum just yet. People do monitor these sites, best not to bring other trails to their attention.

PMs would be the best for now or come up to Lithgow:)

Thanks for the reply guys..

I wish I could have been at these meetings to save old bat, but unfortunately was on the road for work for 6 months...

Anywho I'm glad you replied as now I know who to PM for DH runs..

PS thanks for all the XC guys, and XC rides..

are there any DH riders on the BMORC site
He said that there were, but they just didn't post that much.
Fair enough
It may also be that there are not (m)any authorised DH trails before L'gow

Anyway, as far as the XC element goes
Well if it weren't for that, there would be pretty much no reason to even bother looking at this site
And it would die due to inactivity
It would just be a database of names with no new names being added
We may as well go back to the Rotorburn watering hole

In fact, Mark (Moggio), who set this whole thing up received so little (if any) help
He changed the server to a XC network server where we now have a lot of duplicated and irrelevant threads from another website
This was (among other things) to reduce his work load and save money that he spent from his own pocket

Anyway, that's my rant

This site is what we all make of it
So get involved in what you think will improve it
More DH content. Well post it up

I don't know what the answer to your question is Louie
But I do know that those who take an active interest will decide the direction of the site

(just saw your reply above Louie, and that's the way to go
Your thread gave me the chance of a bit of a rant
See ya on a XC ride sometime)

If anybody knows of downhill tracks (even rumours) not on the eastern escarpment, but not out at Lithgow (no offence Flynny, just a bit far away for a Sunday morning sesh) could you please pm me.
I don't mind to do push runs so the whole car/trailer noisey burnout thing wouldn't happen.
Cheers.

One day ... we'll have legal tracks ... built with sustainable design and construction principals, by volunteers like you an me ... putting in our sweat and tears to get that corner or rock garden just right so that we can both minimise the impact of water run off, whilst also enhancing the terrain to increase our enjoyment of bushlands previously infested with weeds and rubbish left by dumpers. We'll have a sense of ownership over these lands and the trail networks that wind through them. Riders will want to put all their efforts into our legitimate trails and not create their own unapproved tracks, as legitimate trails are for the long term, not constantly threatened with random trail closures only to be reclaimed by those weeds and dumpers

Unfortunately, there are no legal Downhill tracks at present Andrei in the Blue Mountains area, but if we all pull together, regardless of riding style or type, then we can show our "Leaders" that there is a legitimate need for Legal trails, whether they be up or down.

Stick with us mate ... each one of us will count in the end, and I look forward to one day coming to the mountains with my son and daughter, happily being the shuttle pig or photog so that they can enjoy the mountains and our bushland heritage that we worked so hard to conserve for both nimbys, out of towners and the broader community.

In the mean time, organise a trip to Lithgow ... when my hand is better I'd be happy to head over ... apparently there is this shop over there that gives Insane discounts to people named Nerf Herder, or wear an "I love Out of Towners" T-shirt

I really should get some "Vandal with a search engine" stikkas

If somebody can knock up some artwork, me being a printer, i should be able to print some in lightfast ink!
If you want to do it Flynny, let me know!

We're all going to Lidsdale Sunday 13th Al if you're interested
Would be good to have you along

BTW, those old Red Hill DJ threads would put anyone off riding a bike
Let alone a bit of trail maintenance

Flynny's picture

Al I'm out of town that weekend.

You can ride the gun club using the alternate finish into Bren St. Just be aware that it does run down beside the rifle range and they will be shooting...

The unofficial pony club is OK to ride. If there are horse riders please get off and walk past, if the horse looks spooked just stop and ask the rider for direction.

Considering others are heading to Lidsdale you may want to play out there.
The new south side trail is a bit of fun, short enough for push shuttles

My fitness kinda sux at present so thought some shuttles would be good ... but if that falls through I'll join you peeps for some Barf! spin & puke Barf! (thanks for letting me know Andy)

I've ridden gun club ... but has been ages ... is there a chance of actually getting hit ?? Shizz ... I do recall last time I rode there, there was gun fire ... frig

I'll see what the boyz are doing ... new crew I haven't ridden with before ... so uhmmmm 13th my be more appealing ??

Nerf Herder's picture

Just confirming a couple of us will be heading up to Lithgow on the 13th for some Shuttle runs.

Prolly room for a couple more drivers ... PM me if your interested.

Thanks for coming out fellas, huge turnout ... that was a tops day ... great work by the Lithgow fellas on the track maintenance as it was nothing like I remembered it from 6 years back ... top berms are awesome Flynny ... on Gun club ... some of those doubles on Pony were just a little too big for my old head. Looking forward to the 26th dig day. I'm a definite and I'll see who else I can rope in.

Eddy (check below link as well if you want to try and hook up a few more rides)
