Howdy

Presuming a few of you will be attending ... I see this as a good opportunity to highlight what BMORC is about ... focusing on legitimate and sustainable trails and continued recreational access for MTBs.

This thread is for 2 reasons

i) See who is attending and more importantly willing to fly the BMORC flag
ii) Provide links, sound bites and general information that could help in the formulation of a leaflet or information piece, and assist those attending to communicate key aspects.

I see this as more of an initial educational and awareness piece, but could also help with discussions on the 29 Jun 10.

Re flying the flag.
Unfortunately we won't have jerseys or anything that fancy ... but we are working on stickers, cards and potentially a brief leaflet.

I've shared the event from NoBMoB/CTMBC with BMORC:

We thought about the Careflight - the Sunday before the meeting on Tuesday night

I was talking to Michelle, my long suffering partner, about it last night and she said she could probably meet me at Euroka after the race and help distributing pamphlets

In another life (pre MTB) we were political animals and used to hand out pamphlets on election days etc
This sort of thing with a brief face to face chat really does increase support and the Careflight is the perfect venue for it

Pollies wouldn't do it if it didn't work

I also met Tristan from BikeMinded on the trails last weekend

I gave the BMORC spiel and he said he would be happy for a leaflet thingy on the window of his shop re the meeting on the 29th (and BMORC)

Mark and I thought it may be a good idea to approach every bike shop from Katoomba to Penrith with a leaflet thingy and ask if we can put it up
It's in their interests too after all

We would need people from further down the mountain to help with distribution

With the leaflet thing...

I'd be a little careful, most political leaflets get tossed as soon as the person gets around the corner, we don't want to be seen as the leaflets that were left littered all over Euroka clearing.

If I remember correctly there was a backlash against a company that placed leafletts on all the windscreans of cars parked at one of the enduros a few years ago.

Stickers are the better option IMO. hand them out before or after the race and most people will slap them straight on bikes, number plates or helmets.

I say stickers are the way to go for the Classic and you could back it up with a flyer if they ask for more information. Also, I mentioned BMORC at Blackmans in Penrith the other day. So a flyer for the bike shops would be great.

I didn't think of people tossing the leaflets
With the stickers- may have to ask if they live around the mountains first

i can get some free paper stickers, but don't really want to ask for more than a few hundred
I've just got to stop talking about it, and get off my arse and do it

Mog and Todd are sorting stickers ... I didn't think about the litter either.

I'd be interested to see of those registered who will actually be going ...

..at the Woodford to Glenbrook, I think jersey's some time in the future would be awesome, I would be proud to wear one at any event and increase awareness.

I'm thinking of quickly hand silkscreening a t-shirt with BMORC.. well my wife is the one who will do it... all depends on time however..

Guys

Can I please ask you to organise yourselves.

Mog, could you please share around the email that Kingy sent ... Apologies, I'm getting flogged at present, and won't be at the event, so would be good if as many of you could form a kind of plan ... brief message, and whatever else you think off.

If you can get some gazzette exposure that would be good.

sorry for my lack of participation in this one.

I'm racing (well, at last riding) in the Classic. I'll definitely be up for promoting the BMORC in any way possible.

See you there!

Has anyone got their entry info yet? Mine hasn't turned up.

Isildur's picture

I received an email ages ago confirming my entry & containing the details & disclaimers, but haven't received anything else. Am I meant to?

Stickers are completed and in my hot little hands, there are 500 odd stickers for our initial run, please dont give them to people who will just toss them out, they are done in vinyl stock which is meant to last a good while on the sticking front!
Just got e-mail, looks like turn up, give your name and whooshka, you get chip etc, just like wsmtb races!
Print confirmation e-mail just in case!

Count me in for a sticker or two! I'm thinking one for the car, one for the girlfriend's car, and one for the bike!

Plus, also got my email this morning. See you at the race!

What class is everyone entering - age or open?

Isildur's picture

Definitely Age class for me, although I'll probably be the oldest in the group (turn 30 in a couple of months).

No way I'd contemplate the "In it to win it" class with my current state of fitness (or ever, really Eye-wink )

Although, the "Cyclists – Others/Social" is starting to look interesting Smiling Eye-wink
