Lake Canobolas MTB Park - Build arvo
Front gate.
Lake Canobolas Road.
The entrance gate is almost directly across from the entrance to Lake Canobolas.
Please DO NOT park on the side of the road here, if the gate is shut then park at the Lake and walk/ride across.
We are squeezing some track building on Wednesday afternoons until daylight savings finishes(finishes 6th April).
We are planning on continuing work on the tracks at the new Lake Canobolas Mountain Bike Park. So if you currently ride at Kinross and want to give something back, here is your chance. A couple of us have been busy marking out a whole section of track and now have the go ahead to start digging.
It would be good if you could arrive at the start because there will be a site safety induction required before you enter. But if you can't we can run you through it when you arrive. Check back here to confirm a start time, it will probably be 9am.
IMPORTANT: Because of strict WHS obligations you *must* have a broad brimmed hat and long sleeves and long pants to be able to work - Council will be enforcing this!.
Useful things to bring:
* Broad Brimmed Hat, long sleeved shirt, long legged pants, good covered shoes
* Gloves
* Tools, including:
* Mattock
* Fire rake
* Rake
* Shovel
* Muscles
* Water
Oaks Volunteer Maintenance Day
We will be meeting and parking cars at the Glenbrook Helipad. The Toll booth will most likely be unmanned at this time in the morning, but if it is let them know you are volunteering with the Mtb track Maintenance. You will not need to pay the entrance fee. Follow the road across the causeway and up the other side. Continue past the Euroka and Mt Portal turn off. In roughly 100m Turn Rright onto the Helipad access firetrail. Most commmonly the gate here would be closed but will be open for us on the day. Please try to be at the meeting spot before 8am so we can make the most of the day.
We have teed up a maintenance day with National Parks. It may be assisting with the current development or it may be doing some fixing up of the existing trail. This will be determined at a later date by Parks and Contractor.
This will also be a bit of a training day so the preference of those attending are volunteers who are interested in doing more future and regular maintenance days along the Oaks Single-track but all are welcome.
On the Day there will be a chance to have a good look at the development of the final 2km.
Parks will be supplying a lunch.
Lake Canobolas MTB Park - Build day #1
Front gate.
Lake Canobolas Road.
The entrance gate is almost directly across from the entrance to Lake Canobolas.
Please DO NOT park on the side of the road here, if the gate is shut then park at the Lake and walk/ride across.
Its finally here!
We are planning on starting (completing?) the first 3km of track at the new Lake Canobolas Mountain Bike Park. So if you currently ride at Kinross and want to give something back, here is your chance. A couple of us have been busy marking out a whole section of track and now have the go ahead to start digging.
So save the date and spread the word to anyone who has two hands ie send this email on to other MTBers not on this list. I know it is on the same day of the running festival but even if you are running the Marathon you should be finished in plenty of time.
We are hoping that a the end of the day we will be able to ride a nice 3km loop, though this may be ambitious.
It would be good if you could arrive at the start because there will be a site safety induction required before you enter. But if you can't we can run you through it when you arrive. Check back here to confirm a start time, it will probably be 9am.
IMPORTANT
Because of strict WHS obligations you *must* have a broad brimmed hat and long sleeves and long pants to be able to work - Council will be enforcing this!.
Also bring some water (especially if you have just run a marathon in the morning - though surely no one except Scott will be doing that).
We are planning to have a BBQ as well on the day. More detail will be available here later.
It's usually a really fun day so save the date.

Time to give the track a bit of love before the 3hr
Rubbish Clean Up Day - Kinross Forest
The city of Orange is around 4 hrs from Sydney and 3 hrs from Canberra. Kinross State Forest is situated on the northeast edge of town, a 10 minute drive or 20 minute ride from the Orange town centre.
Meet at the Bulgas Road carpark, Western edge of the forest.
Drive out from Orange on the Ophir Rd, before you reach the rubbish tip, turn right onto Bulgas Rd. Follow this about 2km to the forest (the road turns to gravel).
Note that the 'Directions there' google maps link below may not give the best route/destination. It seems that google maps ignores Bulgas Rd when selecting a route and gives the next closest spot. The 'Meeting point' link should be correct.
We want to clear the forest of some of the rubbish that has been dumped ready for the STM race. Any help would be muchly appreciated.
We will be collecting rubbish from various places around the forest and taking it to the car park to place in a skip that forestry is hopefully providing for us. (If a skip is not forthcoming then we will probably be taking it to the tip ourselves).
What to bring:
- ute/trailer if you have one
- muscles
- gloves
- sturdy protective boots
- good protective shirt/pants
- hat/sunscreen etc
- utes/trailers if possible
- sturdy bags if you have some for the small stuff (I'll bring some old chook food bags)
- rakes can sometimes be useful
- lots of energy
- a bike if you are keen for a ride after
Have a think about where you have seen rubbish around the forest that we need to collect so we don't have to waste time searching for it.
