i did the oaks yesterday after coming down andersons. the trail was perfect. yes, some muddy sections but just adding to the fun. i went down the oaks firetrail and then took a detour to the nepean river lookout along the "road". back on the main section i went down the cycle-trail. nice one and in good condition, too. some muddy puddles but not too much of a problem.

Do you have more information?

If you've ridden here lately please add a more recent report. This will be useful even if the condition is the same as updates expire after 30 days.

some muddy sections "adding to the fun"..or is it now somebody elses problem of fixing up what mtb riders insist on riding in muddy, marginal conditions, so many problems up here at the moment from people thinking riding in mud is just fine and dandy!

just take a chill pill mate, there is always going to be some sort of wet patch, in my 25 years of riding it has been NEVER bone dry, maybe once a year.
if a track is not officially closed then you can ride it by choice.
if they wish to ride and cover there bike in mud so be it.
thats all i have to say. Smiling

So you come up here and look at some of the tracks and tell me that mtb riders didnt have an adverse affect on these trails, it is bad, and getting worse. Do you look after any trails? I have been looking after one trail in particular for 8 years now, it used to be motor bike riders that did the damage, now in the last year it is mtb riders riding in pissing rain that are clearly doing the damage, just 2 weeks ago i was on the trail working in the pissing rain fixing drainage, when old mate with some friends come riding through ploughing mud everywhere, i asked him why they would be riding when it is so wet( it had been raining hard for 3 days), one of them laughs and says we are just walking our bikes through, what can i say?..i say nothing and just shake my head.
BTW we were at the bmorc council meeting last night when one of the councillors made us promise not to fuck up the trails knowingly, how do i answer for people who dont obviously give a shit?
BTW, i am chilled, it is ignorance that gets me unchilled!

Surely if it's fire trail, riding it when it's a bit wet is no big deal? Or am I just used to the fire trails around Ku-ring-gai which seem to regularly get cut up by electricity and / or NPWS vehicles to the extent that a few bikes going through when it's muddy has little effect.

Different story perhaps with the sniggle section of the Oaks. I haven't been down there for a year or so, but from memory it would mostly drain pretty well and although there will always be a few puddles after rain, it wouldn't have many sections that became boggy and problematic for long periods?

Agreed, fire trail no problems, but oaks single is just about wrecked now, we did a lot of work with npws and because of rain and traffic, it is shot!..it is a tough subject, and believe me, there are a lot of locals who should hang there heads in shame, they should know better!

...it's not as if it's hard to get back to the main fire trail if the sniggle's too wet to ride on.

I think that bloke has been sitting on his computer since the rain begun waiting for
someone to post an update just so he could have a rant. Im expecting daily updates from him
just so i know when its OK to ride
