Understanding the results of motions raised at council meeting 2-11-10
Hi,
There will be those amongst you who may be disheartened by the news from the council meeting last night which effectively has prolonged the Knapsack Downhill process. However I wish to reassure you that the processes we are now witness to were necessary in order for the prefferred alignment to be put forward and given due consideration.
In the event that the motion had not been raised the very real likelihood that we would be given no input into the downhill track route was on the cards.
23 Nov BMCC Meeting ... Show up or Lose Knapsack
As you all know the 23rd Nov meeting is a critical one.
Instead of doing the usual email campaign and flooding inboxes with spam, and generally being treated as such. The best way forward (as seen by the 29 Jun 10 meeting) is to show them the numbers.
We formed BMORC as recreational cyclists, to demonstrate that there is SIGNIFICANT demand for LEGITIMATE Trails in the Blue Mountains, and that a few residents in any given street shouldn't be able to shut down tracks that have been well and truly alive for several years if not dozens of years.
BMORC and Councillor Howard McCallum inspect the new downhill alignment.
Meeting at short notice was no barrier for Greens Councillor Howard McCullam who embraced the opportunity to get an on the ground appreciation of exactly what is happening out at Knapsack Reserve with the proposed downhill alignment.
Howard McCallum was an enthusiastic participant in my guided tour of the old alignments and the new aligment and also took time talk to Barnet St resident Ashley who put forard some his opinions on the topic of vehicle access to the area and appropriate signage in his street.
BMORC and Councillor Howard McCallum inspect the new downhill alignment.
With the recent motions being raised by Deputy Mayor Mark Greenhill in support of adopting the new alignment for the proposed downhil track on the Western ridge of knapsack reserve, BMORC sent out a last minute invite to Councillor Creed, Councillor Gibbs and Councillor McCullam in the hope that we may be able to give an on the ground overview of why the new alignment is so important to the Knapsack Project.
BMORC meets the people!
Following on from my most recent post regarding the BMORC meeting, I took the opportunity today to door knock Barnett St adjacent to the knapsack Reserve and meet the residents and introduce myself and give the people an overview of our intentions with repsect to the Knapsack project.
Obviously with very busy schedules catching people at home was going to be a hit and miss afair but i was pleasently surprised to see that of the 12 houses I door knocked I was able to meet 8 of the residents.
BMORC Meeting
A tremendous turn out last night, an opportunity to discuss the Knapsack Park mountain bike trails.
BMORC BBQ Fundraiser at Bunnings to raise money for signage at the trails.
Hi guy, I know that Bunnings are very supportive of community groups and schools with fundraising and thought it would be great to hold a BBQ down at Penrith Bunnings so we can raise some funds towards the signage that we will require at Knapsack, I have not had any experience with dealing with Bunnings but will endeavour to make contact this week and find out when is the next available date!
List of things to do / Priorities list
We've been talking about another Pub get together at BMORC HQ (The Lapo)
Apologies, thinking of Next Friday or Saturday Night 29th and 30th.
Would be good to get the brains trust together ... maybe meet some new faces ... and maybe also discuss whats happening with the SCA stuff (Martin help me) ... ie, see where BMORC might fit in
Anyway ... the point of this thread is to develop a list of things to do, for Knapsack and Potentially BMORC in general.
eg,
KnapSack
- That grassy sniggle near Lovers walk needs a good raking
Information in a nutshell that relates to next Monday's Meeting - Please Read
A few things to remember what we are trying to do at Knapsack and keep in mind at the meeting. This stuff is all basically in the BMORC report though stressed a little stronger here in places.
1) The trails at Knapsack were created as maintenance trails and walking trails over the years. As most walkers and vehicles will take the shortest path over a hill they can often occur on fall lines, ie the steepest way which results in serious water erosion. Mountain bikes are irrelevant to this issue.
