Round 3 World Cup Finals Leogang

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

After consulting the dictionary and thinking about it for awhile, i was wondering what does Leogang mean, is it an indigenous name meaning high wet place?, does it refer to a river or place? or as i figured, a gang of leo's?..i think the latter!

Round 3 World Cup Downhill Qualifying Leogang

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

This weekend sees the Downhill / 4cross show move to Leogang, Austria.
This is pure Alps territory, steep, technical, rooty and muddy, barely a pedal stroke in sight.
After Greg Minnaar taking out last years round in muddy, slimy conditions, could we expect him to repeat again?, or is Aaron Gwin still rolling along with nice form?. and Gee Atherton and Sam Hill, this track very much suits there riding style, for Hill this is new ground having not ever raced here, and for both Hill and Atherton this is where there campaign for the overall must kick off!

Round 2 Fort William World Cup Final

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Ben Nevis is the range, Fort William is the track, for the past 10 years "the Bill" has hosted a round of the world cup and 1 world champs, it is a place that usually has sudden showers and lots of mist, giving it a ghostly and almost haunted appearance, but there is no doubting that this track is rocky, long and very very dangerous for riders who dare to wander off line!

Round 2 Fort William Downhill Qualifying

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

With the dust settled on the pedal fest that was round 1 in South Africa, it was time to head to Fort William in Great Britain, into what can only be described as a five minute brutal rock infested downhill track with only a short pedalling section called the motorway!

Feel free to use this thread on rainy days in future to either up date us on tracks near you or pester the locals like I'm doing ... "Bloody Out of Towners"

Sunday, MT York, Lockyers and Cox's!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Well, after getting over a nasty virus and looking at my bike as a tool to go out and have fun on, rather than an obstacle to get into my wine cellar, things were looking like a quite sunday( church in the morning followed by contemplation of my sins), when out of the blue, Jeff rings me and mutters a few words, " narrow neck and Mt York", not needing further motivation, the decision was made, Mt York!

Blue Mountains - Top to bottom

Hey all,
Was discussing this with Andy Bloot the other day and we thought would be good to ask around. Looking for tips on an offroad trail ride that would take you from Katoomba all the way to Lapstone or Emu plains.

Obviously most will say Andos and Oaks, but would like to know I there are any other routes?

Cheers

Catalyst on ABC1 tonight (28/04/2011) 8pm- Peak Oil

Tonight on the Catalyst program on ABC1 at 8pm there wil be a story by Bronwyn Herbert about peak oil. She will interview the chief economist of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol.

For those that are unfamiliar with the term, peak oil is the point in time when the global production of oil will reach its maximum rate, after which production will gradually decline. This in turn will lead to fuel costing massive amounts at the pump.
